Robert Lloyd Lowery
December 27th, 1958 - September 6th, 2026

Robert Lloyd Lowery grew up in Anchorage, Kentucky, with his two brothers, Jack Miller Lowery III and Thomas Woodson Lowery, and their parents, attorney Jack Miller Lowery Jr. and artist Joyce Harrison Lowery. Rob was preceded in death by his parents and both of his brothers.

Rob never lost his fondness for the adventures of his childhood. He loved sharing stories of riding his bike along the horse trails through the woods of Anchorage and camping with friends. Some of Rob’s happiest memories were with his grandparents, Mildred “Mickey” and Lloyd “Daddy Lloyd” Harrison, whom he loved and respected dearly, at their marina, Sunset Dock, on Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. Memories of Sunset Dock were deeply woven into his life. He visited often as a child, spent his summers there throughout college, and later returned to help his grandparents manage the Dock. Rob also enjoyed visiting his beloved grandparents, “Gumdrop” and Jack Lowery, at their family farm in Georgetown, Kentucky, where he also spent time with his aunt, uncle, and cousins, exploring the farm and enjoying family.

Rob attended Wittenberg College in Ohio, where he studied English. He was a lifelong lover of literature and books, but his curiosity extended far beyond literature. Rob had an extraordinarily eclectic range of interests, a genuine curiosity about other people, and a deep appreciation for nature and the natural world. He was always reading, learning from those around him, and sharing what he had learned. A gifted storyteller and letter writer, Rob had a remarkable way with words and bringing his observations to life. Rob had a spark about him, a warmth, humor, and unmistakable twinkle in his eye. He loved to laugh, and throughout his life he never lost his childlike curiosity, enthusiasm, and delight in the world around him.

He was fascinated by history and treasured objects with a story behind them. Over the years, Rob also built an extensive collection of artifacts he discovered at Sunset Dock on Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. Music was another great love of Rob’s life, and he enjoyed collecting guitars and playing guitar with friends. He also found joy in the quieter moments, spending time on his porch watching the birds and butterflies visit his butterfly bushes.

Rob loved his job and the people he worked with at G&L Tube, where he formed friendships that meant a great deal to him. He also deeply valued friendships within his community and the sponsorship, fellowship, and life-changing connections he found there. The Putnam County Library was another special place for Rob, where his profound appreciation of books and learning found a natural home.

Cats held a special place in Rob’s heart throughout his life. Rob coined the name “Kitty Wimples,” which became a Lowery family tradition, with each of his three nieces eventually having a Kitty Wimples of their own. Of all the cats Rob loved, none was more special to him than his beloved girl, Pea Wee.

He is survived by his nieces Allyson Lowery, Kirstyn Lowery, and Alyssa Lowery, as well as extended family, friends, coworkers, and members of his close-knit community who loved him and will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bangham Community Center in Cookeville on Sunday, October 18th. Friends and family are welcome to gather beginning at 2:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Please join us as we gather to remember Rob, share the stories that made us laugh, celebrate his warmth, wonder, and humor, and the many ways he touched the lives of those who knew him.
